Mahan Kosh (Bhai Kahan Singh Nabha)

ਮਹਾਨ ਕੋਸ਼ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਦਾ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਪ੍ਰਮਾਣਿਕ ਹਵਾਲਾ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਕੋਸ਼ ਵਿਚ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਕੌਮ ਦਾ ਮਹਾਨ ਗਿਆਨ-ਸਰਮਾਇਆ ਏਨੇ ਸੁਨਿਸ਼ਚਿਤ ਢੰਗ ਨਾਲ ਸੰਚਿਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਕੋਸ਼ ਗਿਆਨ ਅਤੇ ਜਾਣਕਾਰੀ ਦਾ ਇਕ ਅਖੱਟ ਖਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਹੋ ਨਿਬੜਿਆ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਕੋਸ਼ ਵਿਚ ਗੁਰਮੁਖੀ ਲਿੱਪੀ ਦੇ ਅੱਖਰ ਕ੍ਰਮ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਉਂਤਬੱਧ ਕੀਤੇ ਇੰਦਰਾਜ ਭਾਵੇਂ ਮੂਲ ਰੂਪ ਵਿਚ ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਜਾਂ ਸਿੱਖ ਸਾਹਿਤ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਲਏ ਗਏ ਹਨ ਪਰ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਾਧਿਅਮ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦਾ ਸਮੁੱਚਾ ਇਤਿਹਾਸ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ, ਸਾਹਿਤ, ਸੰਗੀਤ, ਬਨਸਪਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਸਮੇਤ ਆਪਣੇ ਮੂਲ ਸੰਸਕ੍ਰਿਤ ਅਤੇ ਫਾਰਸੀ ਦੇ ਸ੍ਰੋਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ਮਾਨ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ। ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੇ ਇਤਿਹਾਸ, ਦਰਸ਼ਨ, ਧਰਮ, ਸਭਿਆਚਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਦਿਲਚਸਪੀ ਰੱਖਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਵਿਦਵਾਨ ਅਤੇ ਪਾਠਕ ਮਹਾਨ ਕੋਸ਼ ਤੋਂ ਭਰਪੂਰ ਲਾਭ ਉਠਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ।

Mahaan Kosh by Bhai Kahn (Kahan) Singh Nabha is one of the greatest works of Punjabi Literature or the biggest ever compiled dictionary of Punjabi words. Its like an encyclopedia of Punjabi literature containing not only words from Punjabi language but also many words from gurbani . Also if there are different forms or usages of a word all have been thoroughly covered. Also you will find words from old Punjabi that you will not find elsewhere . So one can safely say that is the largest and most thoroughly written dictionary of Punjabi language.
