]]> ਇਸ ਨਾਵਲ ਦਾ ਨਾਇਕ ‘ਬਖਸ਼ਾ’ ਗਰੀਬ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਲੜਕਾ ਹੈ । ਘਰ ਚਲਾਉਣ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਿਉ ਪੂਰਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਣ ਪਿਛੋਂ ਉਹ ਜ਼ਿੰਮੀਦਾਰ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਨੌਕਰੀ ਕਰਨ ਲੱਗ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਥੇ ਉਸਦਾ ਪਿਉ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਦਾ ਸੀ । ਇਕ ਦਿਨ ਉਸਦੀ ਦੋਸਤੀ ਇਕ ਕਾਲੇ ਹੰਸ ਨਾਲ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਹੰਸ ਦੀ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਨਿਸ਼ਾਨੀ ਬਖਸ਼ੇ ਦੀ ਸਾਹੀ ਦਰਬਾਰ ਤੱਕ ਇੱਜਤ ਕਰਾਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ ।
